Turning Ideas Into Reality: The Fine Line Between Stubbornness and Flexibility in Entrepreneurship

Writer's picture: Justin HubbardJustin Hubbard

It’s easy to have ideas. Everyone has ideas. The hard part is turning those ideas into a successful product. There are a ton of steps in between, and it takes something most people don’t have: persistence. Relentlessness.

I always tell people who think they want to be entrepreneurs—you need a mix of stubbornness and flexibility. You’ve got to know when to be which. Let me break it down.

Stubborn on the Vision

You’ve got to be stubborn when it comes to your vision. Without that stubbornness, it’s too easy to quit when things get tough. And trust me, they will get tough. You’ll face challenges, setbacks, and moments when it feels like nothing’s working. That’s when your vision will keep you going. You need to hold onto it like a lifeline. If you don’t, you’ll give up too soon.

Flexible on the Details

But here’s the thing—being stubborn on the vision doesn’t mean you have to be rigid on the details. Flexibility is just as important. As you push forward, you’ll realize that not everything you thought was true is actually true. You’ll learn, adapt, and change along the way. You’ve got to be able to pivot. If you don’t, you’ll get stuck in your own head and miss the opportunities that are right in front of you.

The Entrepreneurship Balancing Act

Being a successful entrepreneur isn’t about being rigid and never bending. It’s about knowing when to stand your ground and when to adapt. That’s the real challenge. You need to be relentless in your pursuit but flexible enough to recognize when it’s time to adjust your approach.

The key entrepreneurship takeaway? Be stubborn about your vision, but don’t be afraid to change how you get there. If you can balance those two, you’ll be able to turn any idea into something real.✌️
