Everybody wants leads. Everybody wants more jobs.
Â
The number one question I get from guys in this business is always the same:âHow do I get more jobs? How do I get more leads?â
But before we even start talking about lead generation, let me ask youâis your business even ready to handle an influx of leads?
Thereâs no point in spending a ton of money on ads if youâre just gonna fumble the bag. No point in generating leads if youâre dropping calls, not answering fast enough, or making it hard for customers to book.
Â
Thatâs like buying a brand-new truck and never changing the oil. Youâre setting yourself up for failure.
So before you start spending money, letâs make sure your business is actually prepared to take on leads the right way.
Step 1: Answer Your Damn Phone
Â
I hate when I call a junk removal company to give them work, and they donât answer.
Nothing pisses me off more.
That tells me you donât care about money.
And if you donât care about money, you shouldnât be in business.
Hereâs the deal: Answer the phone. Every. Single. Time.
If you miss a call, call back immediately.
If they donât pick up, leave a voicemail.
After the voicemail, send a text.
You have to be on it. If you donât, the customer is just gonna move on to the next guy. Simple.
And when you do answer, you better sound like a professional.
Donât answer the phone like some dude working out of his garage.
Let them know they called the right place and that youâre the solution to their problem.
Have answers to every common question ready to go.
Rich Hauler vs. Broke Hauler Mindset:
đŤÂ Broke Hauler: Misses calls. Waits for customers to call back. Complains about slow business.
â Â Rich Hauler: Picks up every call. Follows up immediately. Goes after business instead of waiting for scraps.
If youâre serious about making money, act like it.
Step 2: Get Your Lead Funnel Right
Okay, so now youâre answering the phone. But where are your leads coming from? And more importantly, where are they going once they find you?
For us, Google Ads is our main lead generator.
A customer searches for junk removal.
Â
They click our ad and land on our website.
Â
The website funnels them into a call or a lead form.
But if your website sucks, youâre losing money.
Your website needs to do three things:
â Keep the customer engaged
â Have plenty of call-to-action buttons (CALL NOW, GET A QUOTE, BOOK HERE)Â
â Make it stupid easy for them to contact you
Customers have 15-second attention spans. If your site is confusing, slow, or cluttered with useless bullshit, theyâre gone.
I had a hauler ask me why he wasnât getting conversions.
I looked at his siteâno call button, 3 paragraphs of nonsense, and a contact form buried at the bottom.
I told him, âYouâre making people work too hard to give you money.â
Fix it.
Step 3: Low-Budget Lead Generation That Works
Not everyone can start with a $5,000/month Google Ads budget. Thatâs fine. Hereâs how to get leads without spending a ton of money.
Guerrilla Marketing (Takes Effort, Costs Almost Nothing)
Yard Signs â Place them at busy intersections where traffic slows down.
Â
Door Hangers & Flyers â Hit up the neighborhoods where people actually need your service.
Â
Business Cards â Keep them on you at all times.
Â
Cold Calling & Cold Emailing â Reach out to property managers, real estate agents, contractors, and storage facilities.
đĄ Pro Tip: Use web scraping to build a lead list.
Go on Fiverr, find a web scraper, and get 300-500 names, emails, and phone numbers of:
â Property managersÂ
â Real estate agentsÂ
â ContractorsÂ
â Storage facilities
Then, call them, email them, and even show up at their office. Introduce yourself. Build relationships.
There are plenty of ways to get leads for free. But most guys are too lazy to do the work.
Step 4: Spending Money the Right Way on Ads
If you have money to spend, donât waste it on the wrong platforms.
đŤ Stay away from Angiâs List, Nextdoor, and similar sites. These platforms are full of tire-kickers and cheap customers who will waste your time.
đŤ Be careful with Facebook (Meta) Ads.
Facebook ads put your business in front of random people who arenât even looking for junk removal.
Â
Sure, they might message you, but most of them are just being fucking nosy.
Â
Youâll get plenty of âHow much?â messages that never convert.
â Google Ads is King.
Google Ads is what runs my business.
The beauty of Google is that people are already searching for your service. Theyâre actively looking for junk removal, meaning they are high-intent leads.
But hereâs the problemâGoogle Ads is expensive as hell.
If you donât know what youâre doing, Google will eat your budget alive. Run a bad campaign, and youâll blow through your money in no time.
I had a guy message me last month. He dumped $2,000 into Google Ads and got nothing.
I asked him, âDid you set up conversion tracking?â
âNo.â
âDid you block out irrelevant search terms?â
âNo.â
âDid you optimize your ad copy?â
âNo.â
I told him, âYou didnât run ads. You donated money to Google.â
Donât be that guy.
Step 5: Stop Making Excuses & Get to Work
At the end of the day, you donât need a giant budget to get customers.
What you do need is hustle.
You need to answer your phone every time.
You need to follow up with leads immediately.
Â
You need to put in the effortâflyers, cold calls, door knocking.
Â
You need to spend ad money wisely.
There is money out there.
But no one is going to hand it to you.
đ¨ Final Gut Check
You can either stay stuck doing what youâve been doing, or you can step up and go get it.
But donât come crying when another hauler eats your lunch because you were too soft to follow through.
Now get after it.
Â
Letâs Get It đđđ
